Rockford Footwear Depot

Shopping · 235 N Main Street · Rockford, Michigan 49341

Wolverine World Wide was founded in Grand Rapids in 1883, built its plant in Rockford in 1901, and still runs its global headquarters here. The Footwear Depot is the public-facing version of that: more than 23,000 square feet at the north end of Main carrying Merrell, Chaco, Saucony, Hush Puppies, Cat, Bates and Wolverine boots, plus apparel and accessories. People search for it as the Wolverine outlet or simply the shoe store in Rockford, and they all mean this building. Worth the walk up from the dam.

More about Rockford Footwear Depot

People almost never search for this place by its name. They search for the Wolverine outlet, the Wolverine shoe store, the shoe store in Rockford, or just the outlet, and every one of those is this building at the north end of Main. Worth knowing before you go looking for something called a depot.

What is inside is the retail end of a company that has been in this town since 1901. More than 23,000 square feet carrying Merrell, Chaco, Saucony, Hush Puppies, Cat, Bates and Wolverine, plus apparel and accessories. Wolverine World Wide was founded in Grand Rapids in 1883, built its Rockford plant in 1901, and still runs its global headquarters here, which is why a town of six thousand has a shoe store this size on its main street.

One correction worth carrying: Sperry is no longer a Wolverine brand. The company sold it to Authentic Brands Group in 2024, and sold Keds the year before. The store may still stock either; the company does not own them. If somebody drove up from Grand Rapids for one specific thing, statistically it was boots, and this is where they were going.
