The practical stuff in Rockford, Michigan
Where to mail it, where to take it, and what hours they keep.
Most of this site is for people deciding where to eat. This page is for people who already live here and need to know when the transfer station closes.
The post office is at 57 Courtland Street, Rockford, MI 49341, phone (616) 866-0789. The retail window runs Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, closed Sunday. The lobby is open around the clock. Last collection is 5 p.m. on weekdays and noon on Saturday. It handles PO boxes, money orders, bulk mail and passport service, the last of which generally wants an appointment. There is a lot. It is also the building the Saturday farm market sets up behind, which is worth knowing if you are trying to mail something at nine on a summer Saturday.
The dump, which is what everybody calls it and nobody calls by its actual name, is the North Kent Recycling and Waste Center at 2908 10 Mile Road NE, Rockford, MI 49341, phone (616) 632-7920. It is run by the Kent County Department of Public Works and it is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday. It takes household waste, construction and demolition debris, bulky items and appliances, yard waste, tires and contaminated soil, and it has recycling drop-off and household hazardous waste collection on the same site.
City Hall is at 7 South Monroe Street. The city's own site is rockford.mi.us, which is the one to use for council agendas, utility billing, the parks and trails pages and the RORA map. Note that cityofrockford.org is a different city entirely, in Minnesota, and it comes up first in search often enough to be a nuisance.
Waste, recycling and the wider area. If you live inside the 49341 ZIP but outside the city limits, which describes most of the 38,000 people the ZIP covers, your pickup and your township services are run by Algoma, Courtland, Cannon, Plainfield, Grattan or Oakfield rather than by the city of Rockford. Check which township you are actually in before calling city hall about a bin.
Hours here were checked in August 2026 against first-party listings. Government hours move around holidays; call before you drive over with a truckload.
