The Corner Bar

The chili dog is the reason most people come through the door, and the Hot Dog Hall of Fame is not a gimmick the bar retired years ago. It still keeps the roster, and it still publishes it: finish the challenge and your name joins a list anybody can search. That is an unusually literal kind of local fame and it is most of what "corner bar rockford" is really asking about.

The rest of the menu is broader than the reputation suggests. Burgers built on hand-formed patties, the Texas Twister among them, rice bowls, salads, and a kids' menu, alongside the dogs. There is a Friends Family Room at the back with space for about a hundred, which the bar rents for events, so the room that looks like a dining room on a Friday night is a party space the rest of the week.

Practical things. It is open daily until nine, Sundays until eight, which is later than most kitchens in town but not the latest. Parking is the free downtown lots, and on a Friday you will be walking a block or two. It is a participating business in the Rockford Outdoor Refreshment Area, so a drink bought here can leave with you between noon and ten.
