Breweries and beer in Rockford, Michigan
One brewery on the riverbank, a taproom in the old mill, and a district that lets you carry the glass between them.
Rockford has one production brewery, and it is in the right place. Rockford Brewing Company has been brewing on the bank of the Rogue since 2011, with a summer patio that backs directly onto the river and the White Pine Trail, which means half the people on it arrived by bike. It is the answer to almost every search that brings people to this page, and it is worth saying plainly that a town of six thousand having a brewery of that quality at all is the unusual part.
The Old Mill on South Squires is the other place to go looking. It shares the historic mill building with Beer City Bread Co., which is a combination that sounds like a novelty and is not: bread and beer are the same two ingredients with different intentions. Hours there change with the season and we would rather send you to their own page than publish a schedule we have not confirmed by phone.
Past that, the taps downtown are worth knowing about even though nobody is brewing on site. Rogue River Tavern has been the game-on room since 2001, with twenty-two screens and free popcorn. The Corner Bar has poured on North Main since 1935 and is the only one where the beer is not the point. Char + Barrel inside Hotel Rose runs the bourbon end of the scale. Grill One Eleven has the balcony.
The thing that makes drinking in Rockford different from drinking in any other West Michigan town this size is the Rockford Outdoor Refreshment Area. Between noon and 10 p.m., every day, you can buy a drink from any of thirteen participating businesses and carry it anywhere inside the marked boundary, as long as it is in a clear plastic cup of sixteen ounces or less with that business's RORA sticker on it. No glass, no cans, no bringing your own, and you cannot carry it into a different business. It turns four blocks into one long room. The participants as of August 2026 are Cinco de Mayo, The Corner Bar, Grill One Eleven, Kawa, Hotel Rose and Char + Barrel, Marinades, MudPenny, Quickwater Coffee Roasters, Rockford Brewing Company, Rogue River Tavern, The Old Mill, The Toasted Pickle and Uccello's.
One warning that will save somebody a two-hundred-mile drive. Search results for "Rockford brewery" are dominated by Prairie Street Brewing Company, which is a fine brewery in Rockford, Illinois, nine hours' round trip from here. Everything on this page is Rockford, Michigan 49341, Kent County.
